Austria case confirmed, TV not print news:
http://www.gmanews.tv/story/159164/...-case-confirmed
Ministry: Austrian swine flu case confirmed
04/29/2009 | 07:48 PM
VIENNA – Austria's health ministry has confirmed the country's first case of swine flu.

The ministry says a laboratory test shows that a 28-year-old woman had contracted the virus but that she is recovering.

Officials previously said the woman recently returned from a trip to Guatemala via Mexico City.

The ministry also said Wednesday that two new suspected cases have surfaced.

In Europe, Britain, Spain and Germany already have confirmed cases of the disease, which was first detected in Mexico and has now been found in several other countries worldwide. - AP

Well you can add WA State. King County is reporting 3 probable cases.

Quote:
Probable swine flu (H1N1) in King County
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Health officials encourage residents to get prepared at home and work

KING COUNTY, WA – Today, three probable cases of swine influenza A (H1N1), also known as swine flu, have been identified in King County. The laboratory samples have been sent to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Public Health - Seattle & King County is awaiting final confirmation.

The CDC has determined that the swine flu virus H1N1 is contagious and is spreading from human to human. Symptoms of swine flu include a fever of more than 100°F, coughing, joint aches, severe headache and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea.

"Now that swine flu is likely in King County, we expect to see more infections, but it's too early to say how severe the illnesses will be. We are working to provide needed information and assistance to these people and their families. We are also working with health care providers and community partners to prepare in the event that the situation becomes more serious," said Dr. David Fleming, Director and Health Officer for Public Health - Seattle & King County.

"We've prepared for this day for the past four years, and now we must all do our part to reduce its spread," said Ron Sims, King County Executive. "We encourage everyone to get prepared at home, find out about plans at your job, and take steps to protect yourself, your family and the community by staying home when you are sick, washing your hands often and covering your coughs and sneezes."

"In the last few years, Seattle has prepared for pandemic flu. We will activate our Emergency Operations Center at the first level so our emergency operations personnel can coordinate procedures and communications," said Greg Nickels, Seattle Mayor.

As of today, April 29, there are three probable cases of swine flu in King County, in addition to two cases in Snohomish County and one case in Spokane County.

The three King County residents with probable swine flu include:

* a male child of Seattle who was hospitalized and is improving
* a male in his 20s from Seattle, not hospitalized and improving
* a woman in her 30s from Seattle, not hospitalized and improving

Human cases of swine influenza virus infection also have been identified nationally and internationally.

Also, check ProMed in the morning, they posted a really long list today and I'll bet it gets even longer tomorrow.

So far we're only listing cases reported as Confirmed, though did anyone else notice the comment from Spokane...

Health officials in Spokane said that 95-percent of the cases that states send to the CDC come back as confirmed swine flu.

Interesting -- although maybe unsurprising that it's the only untypeable A virus currently in circulation.

Add the U.S. state of Georgia:
http://www.huliq.com/3257/80384/sou...swine-flu-cases.

South Carolina, Georgia Confirm First SE Swine Flu Cases
The first cases of swine flu to be confirmed in the southeastern U.S. have occurred in Georgia and South Carolina, according to reports.

First, the head of Georgia's Division of Public Health says the CDC has confirmed that a 30-year-old woman from Kentucky who was hospitalized in the town of LaGrange, GA (west Georgia) has been confirmed to have swine flu. She'd been in Cancun, Mexico, earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the CDC also confirmed that there were 10 cases in South Carolina. This raises the total to more than 100 swine flu cases in 11 states.

Added countries and US state of Georgia (thanks SIW) t our list above based on WHO update...
Quote:
The Netherlands confirmed its first swine flu case, in a 3-year-old who had traveled to Mexico and was said to be doing well, according to Radio Netherlands.

Switzerland reported its first case, involving a 19-year-old student who was mistakenly released from a hospital and then hastily readmitted, according to an AP report.

Peru also reported its first swine flu case, in an Argentine woman who lives in California and had recently been in Mexico, according to a Reuters report. She was on an airline flight from Panama that was diverted to Lima because of her illness, the report said.

Spitting in the Wind just noticed this interesting tidbit in another thread...
Quote:
Mr Ryall said New Zealand had moved to a phase 5.1 in its plan but "this is not an escalation in New Zealand's epidemic planning."

Officials were still working to "contain and mitigate" swine flu, he said.

Mr Ryall said 32 countries had now notified WHO of suspected or confirmed cases of swine flu.

Hopefully most of the suspected cases will turn out to be false alarms.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has now confirmed nearly 130 swine flu cases in eleven states, adding South Carolina to the list with ten test results coming back positive.

... snip

Mexico's health secretary says the number of new swine flu cases in that country is stabilizing.

Jose Angel Cordova says he hopes that trend will continue and that a vaccine will be available in six months.

He says Mexico has 260 confirmed swine flu cases, including 12 deaths. But he says he'll stop updating his count of suspected cases and deaths, which had stood at about 2,500 and 168, respectively.

Thanks, BlueJay... I updated the list above.

Btw... anyone should feel free to update our list when I'm not around. It certainly takes a Village to keep up :-)

I find it easiest to use the "Quote" function (to preserve the formatting), remove the "quote" and "/quote" and then make the changes and submit the new post.

I've been trying to make a note at the top saying what's been added/changed, and put a short note next to anything that seems underconfirmed.

http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/heal...torylist=health

Swine flu confirmed in N. Idaho
5/3/2009, 7:55 p.m. EDTThe Associated Press

(AP) — BOISE, Idaho - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday notified Idaho public health officials that a sample from a northern Idaho woman has tested positive for swine flu.

Tom Shanahan, spokesman for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, says the Kootenai County woman in her 60s who recently traveled to Texas is recovering at home and has not needed to be hospitalized.

Shanahan says more samples have been sent for testing and he expects additional swine flu cases to be reported in the state.
He says about 50 more samples were submitted on Saturday for testing at the Idaho Bureau of Labs in Boise.
