Hey SAR! How funny, I just finished ordering a bunch of soy wax to make some candles. I also got some lemon verbena and lavender scents to mix and add to the candles. Christmas cookie jar would drive me crazy wanting to have the cookies!

Hi Cipher!!! I remember last yr at this time saying prayers for a speedy and full recovery! so nice to see you!. well the votives came out of the cups alright, and I pricked the holes by the wick as it said, and I top filled in a half hr.... only I used up all the wax and there is still a little "well" in the center....so we'll burn these and practice again on another night. I could not stand there any longer, I still have a tree to string lights and I am done tonight....well, kinda.. I have to get to the barn in a few minutes, and "tuck" the horses in.

I'm checking all the neat rooms here.!

Hi Beach, you snuck in! I have a candle making beginners' book, and I was looking at the "herb" candles... I have my own herbs I dry, and I was trying to figure out how to add the dry herbs and not have them burn!

Hey, I made candles a couple times. I really went crazy when I found out I could beat the wax and make it look like snow. I made little houses and stuff, and then grouped them into a cutesy town, with a lake. I used a mirror for the lake. I think I used about 20 pounds of wax in all. I wished I had more, but I had to leave some for the kids to use!

Haven't tried it - yet but it sounds neat. These are for tall, fat type pillar candles. Nderstand candle making is something I've yet to try.

You apparently start with a tall taper candle as your center - -you candle makers will know how to steary it. Prepare your wax, scented, colored, herbed or whatever & use at least a color matched center taper. Oh yeah, you're making these in a can...

Just before you pout in your wax, fill the can with smallish ice cubes, then pour in your wax. ice melts & some of the space is filled in by wax but apparently much is left with holes for a light kind of look.

Sounds like it might be worth trying...

SmartAZ... I am working up to doing fancy things with the whipped wax, I am fascinated with it... (sometimes...it just doesn't;t take much!) :D

CS, those are chunk candles, or lace candles, or cheese candles... we are planning on doing those next time.

what I want to get good at, is have a bunch of containers for "dipping" and do the soft dipping, then carve and curl the candles, you can get some exotic and beautiful designs and colors.

doing the crafts, and others thing I have to do, sometimes there just isn't enough hrs in the day!...

Since this is more of a hobby/craft topic than anything else, I'm going to move it to the Rec Room
