"I know whom I hath believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." 2 Tim 1:12

(I can still hear how this sounds being sung from my days teaching Vacation Bible School)

Sage, you just brought back vivid memories of my VBS days!! Thank you! (And Awana - we sang it at Awana too) :)

My favorite Bible verse is:

Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

I've always loved the hopefulness and power in that verse.

My turn to thank you now, Mamawolf 'cos you just reminded me of my Awana days. One we used to sing there was: "Be ye kind, one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another; just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Eph. 4:32

Now if I could just remember that haunting one we sang from Revelation. It swelled my heart and would move me to tears it was so powerful....driving me crazy that I can't remember it, I can hear the tune but not the words...AAAAHHH!

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Study - Every use of this word is associated with haste and dilligence.

to show thyself approved - You don't study to win arguments, or to show off your knowledge, or to browbeat people; you study to show yourself approved ...

unto God - Not unto the neighbors, or your family, or the strangers you speak to.

a workman - When you study, your relationship with God is that of a workman. As such you only seek the approval of the one who appointed you to the task.

that needeth not to be ashamed - As a workman you do not apologize for your work. You do what you know how to do and that's that.

rightly dividing the word of truth - We are not authorized to interpret the word. Interpretations belong to God. And it is not possible to quote the entire book for every occasion. We are authorized to divide it, taking the part that applies to the occasion, but we are to rightly divide it; we don't cut out words to change the meaning or soften the effects.

Faith precedes the miracle.

.... that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever. Words of Moroni

Epistle of James, first chapter and fith verse.....If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (sixth verse)....ask in faith, nothing wavering...

Goes with yours Sage....
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible.
I like yours!

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." - John 1:1

...the Word was God.

Toss that around in your mind for a little while.

Would God exist without man?

Is God what the collective subconscious (which is cemented together with language - in other words, words) of man makes Him to be?

Is God the same to me (a Christian) as it is to a Chinese-speaking Christian? (One of the main factors in the Great Schism was a translation issue - the Roman Christians thought the Greek Christians were worshiping three gods, while the Greeks thought the Romans didn't understand the nature of the Trinity.)

...the Word was God.

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

The opening verses of Psalm 40 have always been a particular favorite of mine:

I waited patiently for the Lord and He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire and He set my feet upon a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God...

Considering my pesonal background, I think that was written just for me :)

I have two that come to mind..
1ST..Isaiah 58

1. Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
2. Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
3. Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
4. Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
5. Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the Lord?
6. Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7. Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8. Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward.
9. Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10. And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
11. And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
12. And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
13. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14. Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

2nd..
Luke chapter 22verse 36. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
