Can you relate to this?

Our truck engine went (1995 Jeep Cheroke (sp?)) $1800.00 to fix. My dh makes a deal with the mechanic to do the work in trade for one of our snow machines. So we live with that. Then dh goes to our cottage to pick up the snow machine in the garage and checks out the cottage at the same time (we haven't been there since New Years day). Our basement has 6" water in it!!! Everything is destroyed. Washer, dryer, deep freeze - in laundry room, furnace, all the furniture and beds, dressers in bedrooms.....on and on..... I store our preps there, everything on the floor is destroyed in the cold room - staples (toilet tissue, paper towel (cases I'm talking) large stuff, vinager, flour, sugar.....again, on and on. The walls are destroyed, carpets (obvious). A basement FULL of stuff.

AND

We are supposed to leave on vacation Feb 7.

Sucks to be me right now! Sob and

Needed to vent!

oh that does suck....but the good news is: no one was hurt....so hey, go enjoy the vacation...unless you were going to your cottage! In that case it will be a working vacation...

Hi Kathy. I'm really sorry! If it will make you feel a bit better I know somewhat how you feel. We have a Cabin at a lake in Alabama. We hadn't been up there in over 6 months. We finally went up to check on things, and chipmunks chewed up our bed, and just about everything else there! Boy, what a mess! Took us all day to clean up.

Hope you can go on vacation and just forget all of this and have a good time.

Hugs,
Pepper

Thanks for hearing out my vent. I know, life can be worse (Asia). This just happened 2 hours ago. dh thought he was going for a quick trip to pick up the snow machine. Good news is we are insured thank God! You know what's crazy about all of this! when we were at the cottage at News Years I brought all the photo albums (lake pictures of our family over the last 11 years) upstairs and put them into a cabinet I got for Christmas. The albums were stored in the entertainment center bottom drawer which is under water. We did loose all the Disney movies. They were stored on the bottom shelf. They can be replaced.

Everything will work out. Just found out our deductable for insurance is reasonable considering the loss.

Hey Pepper - I know the damage chipmunks can do, been there, done that too at the cottage. Nice and fortunate to have a cottage, but the company we had over the years always seem to enjoy it more then me! (cut grass, maintenance, expense, stock, worry when your not there, todays problem!) I think I want to go back to a camper :D

sandyd - your right! No one was hurt. Just the pocket book. Vacation is Mexico. Count down is on. I had no time for this is my BIG problem. We leave in 4 days. :(

Enjoy Meheco! Problems like this can always wait till after the vacation to completely solve....vacations need to come first cuz they keep us sane.

Kathy,
Texas has issued a travel advisory for Mexico this week, particularly the border area around Laredo, TX and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Hope you are going to one of the better known tourist destinations, like Cancun, etc. Texian

Texian....

Where would I find the travel advisory information? My inlaws are supposed to be moving to Laredo in about a week and I'd like to send it to them before they get down there so they know what they're looking at.

Kathy....

Sorry to hear about your mess....never any fun!!! Sure hope you have a good time on your trip though :)

How come memories and kids affect these thoughts? My kids are freaking right now over what has happened to us. Getting rid of the place is the last thing on my mind at this moment. We have a gem. I will treasure it! Home in town was business, the lake was all about hugs and kisses. How do you part with that?

FWIW I store my stuff in plastic buckets with water tight lids and 35 gallon trash cans. I also store stuff on the second shelf of my shelving. I know it doesn't help this time but next time around...

I hope you work things out and get your cabin fixed soon.

Awh geez, Kathy, I am so sorry to hear about the disaster at your cabin. I know this is much easier said than done, girl, but try to hang in there. Sounds like you are gonna need that vacation even more than you thought. I sure hope things go better for you soon. {{{ :hug: }}}

Kathy, that's horrible. :( I feel very badly for you and your DH. So much lost. Just try to remember, if you can, that anything you "own" you don't really "own". Everything you have is "borrowed". Either it will break, disappear, be stollen or you will eventually die and it won't be yours anymore, It, hopefully will be passed on to your loved ones. I know that's not much comfort now. I wish I could ease your pain.

Kathy, I hope you enjoy your trip, but what happened at your cottage just plain sucks. If you have to keep preps on the floor, how about getting those really deep Rubbermaid totes to put the bottom layer in? They go on sale at Canadian Tire and Walmart every once in a while, and usually after Christmas. I use them for everything from laundry baskets, to log holding containers on the deck for firewood, to storage containers for Christmas decorations. Some we have must be more than ten years old. Never had one break or crack.

ps. Got sunscreen? :D
