Any chance you'd be interested in using a free spell check service?
I saw this one in action over at a dream forum...it's called SpellingCow (http://www.spellingcow.com). http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/tiere/animal-smiley-034.gif
It works great...couple of tiny ads on the side of the spell check window...not too distracting.

I personally have no real need for a spell-checking box but I think others might find it useful. Thoughts, everyone?
The ads in that box are annoying, and I would have no way to turn them off. If anyone knows of a comparable tool that maybe I can license for a small fee, that might be a way to go.

I use IE spell (http://www.iespell.com) myself. It's a freebie & plugs right into your browser and comes equipped with a dictionary too. You can use it wherever you go on the net and needn't worry if there's a spell-checker installed on that particular forum/msg. board, etc.
IE Spell claims to work with "Internet Explorer type" and gives a few examples and then says, 'etc.' but as to what 'etc.' that means, I do not know. However, since Firefox is supposedly a Microsfot product (only better), then it IE Spell may work in Firefox. As for Opera, I'd check with Ought Six (member here on CE) as he really knows his stuff on browsers. He should be able to advise you better on a compatible spell-checker plug in should you desire one.
I've found that for the most part, spell-checkers on forums take too long to load so therefore prefer my own browser plug-in. AFAIK, IE Spell (http://www.iespell.com) is not spyware.

IE Spell, is a GREAT program. The sad thing is it will not work with Firefox. :(
So far I haven't found a spell checker that I can use with Firefox. If anyone else knows of one I would appreciate a link.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for something that will work with Firefox as well. I spell so badly I look like a seven year old without a spell checker. Otherwise, I love the Firefox web browser. My I-spell didn't transfer over.

Just installed Spellbound for Firefox 1.0 from here
http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/installenabled
Seems to work okay so far.
Once you complete the online install, you have to place it on your toolbar. Go to View>Toolbars>Customize and drag and drop the abc icon onto your toolbar. It works, but I've read reviews about the dictionary not being all that great; many words not included, but you can manually add new words.

Hey, Spellbound even works in the "Quick Reply" box.
So far I think it's a keeper!

Got It! Thanks so much for the quick help,

I use ieSpell.
SpellingCow would worry me as a "Service."
I wouldn't want to send my stuff out to "anonymous" for review. Haven't looked at their privacy policy. But after I rejected their cookie, their site no longer works for me.

To add a spell checker in Opera:
Go to this site: http://aspell.net/win32/
Download both the Aspell installer and the English language dictionary installer.
Install them both.
Restart Opera. Highlight any text in any entry box (including message entry boxes in bulletin boards), and right-click on it. On the context menu, you will see the 'Check spelling' option. Select it, and away you go.
I understand that Aspell only works with pre-7.0 version of Opera, as well as Opera v7.50 and newer. I am using it with v7.54, and it works great.
