Colts vs. Patriots

Your Lawless (heh!), decimated secondary won't get away with mugging the Colts' receivers again this year.

Your Pats will feel the awesome awesomeness of the dreaded Touchdown Monkey!

Colts 24, Pats 17.

Hey, Fart. I don't feel very good about this one, but then the Sox went along way this year towards satisfying any such urges.

Bah! We'll play you in our jocks in that kind of weather!

The Colts are still pumped up after being called "soft" by the Broncos' Champ Bailey. Bailey got his clock cleaned by a savage block by wee Marvin Harrison yesterday that lifted him off the ground and sent him flying about 6 feet.

The Pats running game is a cause for concern, but I think we're about ready to pop open a can of this stuff on the Pats finally:

Manning doesn't have to share award this time

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Peyton Manning's phenomenal season earned him his second straight Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award. He was nearly a unanimous choice.

The Indianapolis Colts' star quarterback, who surpassed Dan Marino and Steve Young with his passing prowess in 2004, earned all but one of 48 votes from a national panel of sports writers and broadcasters who cover pro football. Manning tied with Steve McNair for the award last season, but this time only Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick drew a vote.

Manning joined the likes of Joe Montana, John Unitas, Steve Young and Kurt Warner as quarterbacks with two MVP awards. Brett Favre is the only player to win it three times.

"Individually, I accomplished a lot in a short period of time," Manning said. "But no question, we did not win a Super Bowl in the time I've been here as a quarterback."

Ever the team man, and ever championship-oriented, Manning refuses to concentrate on his statistics. He might have thrown for 49 touchdowns, surpassing Dan Marino's 20-year-old NFL record. And he may have shattered Young's passer rating record with a 121.1 mark. And he might have established other league marks and a bunch more team records.

But to Manning, unless it all culminates in a championship, it's not what he's after.

"Just because you played well in Week 2 or Week 10 doesn't mean anything for the playoffs," Manning said. "Except that you're capable of doing it."

Manning was capable of doing almost anything in leading the Colts to a 12-4 record and the AFC South title. They routed Denver 49-24 in the first round of the playoffs - the MVP voting was held before the postseason - and play at New England on Sunday.

He also turned two of his previously unaccomplished receivers, Reggie Wayne and Brandon Stokley, into threats almost on a par with Manning's favorite target, perennial Pro Bowler Marvin Harrison. All caught at least 10 touchdown passes and went over 1,000 yards in receiving - an unprecedented combination for three teammates.

"Peyton is such a competitor, he has such high expectations to go out and win," Wayne said. "You want to make a play for him and bail him out of tough situations."

Tough situations? Manning tends to make everything look easy.

Sort of like Young and Montana and Unitas and Warner and Favre did. But all of them have that championship along with their MVPs. Manning doesn't.

And it drives him to do even more.

It just gets better....

Seymour could miss matchup with Colts

Associated Press
Posted: 12 hours ago

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) - Defensive end Richard Seymour was listed Wednesday by the New England Patriots as questionable for Sunday's playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Seymour, a three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman, missed at least part of practice with a knee injury that kept him out of the final regular-season game.

He is a key player in the Patriots' attempt to stop Peyton Manning, especially with their top two cornerbacks, Ty Law and Tyrone Poole, on injured reserve.

The questionable designation means there's a 50-50 chance Seymour will play Sunday. The report will be updated Thursday.

He missed the Patriots' last game, against San Francisco, after being hurt the previous week in the third quarter of a 23-7 win over the New York Jets.

"It'll be a little different not having the big guy over there" if Seymour can't play, Ty Warren, the other starting defensive end, said Wednesday. "We have to have some guys fill in the void for him and just play like we would if he was in there."

Seymour is tied for third on the team with five sacks and tied for fifth with 67 tackles.

The only other New England players on the injury report - running back Kevin Faulk and linebackers Matt Chatham and Eric Alexander - were listed as questionable after missing at least part of Wednesday's practice.

Patriots will have turf advantage?

Thursday, January 13, 2005
In Foxboro, the conditions were probably worse than anywhere, with an overnight snowfall giving way to a driving rain that lasted from morning until night. It was, by any measure, a day to cover up and get out of the elements. Unless, that is, you like to wallow in the cold and mud.

It's safe to say the Indianapolis Colts don't, and that explains why the Patriots kept the field at Gillette Stadium uncovered as the turf was pelted by the weather. As always, there were tarps nearby, ready to be rolled out. They sat untouched.

The Pats enjoy home-field advantage for Sunday's divisional playoff against the dome-dwelling Colts, and they obviously plan to capitalize on every inch of it. Not that you'd ever get Bill Belichick to fess up to that. ``My job is not to pull weeds,'' he said.

Complete with the little groundskeeper guy and his snowblower, clearing a path for the Pats' fieldgoal kicker?

Well, the Colts didn't show up, if that's what you mean. Did they reschedule their slaughter of the Pats?

Here, have a few

(I don't reall care that much about the Patriots, but a Superbowl win goes a long ways towards getting me safely to spring training. )

Yer darned tootin'.

I don't know what the hell that was supposed to be.

What a shame. The defense actually held a team to 20 points and this time OFFENSE could't get it in gear. They were playing so conservatively -- I think they were spooked by all the turnovers last year or something. Heck, they usually score more than 20 in the first quarter.

Well, I hope the Pats win the Super Bowl now, so we can at least say we were beaten by the champs.

My Super Bowl picks just went right out the window over the weekend. Here I thought the Rams were streaking... Jeez!

I predict a massacre.

Whomever the NFC was going to send was going to end up looking like a Pop Warner team next to the AFC representative.

Of course, my predictions have been incredibly accurate so far, huh?
