Maybe this is silly thinking, but what "if" this was a sign? Birth pangs have increased over the last years. Could the water have broken (South Asia) and the rest will now unfold as we were are told. I'm reading lots in the last to weeks to understand more, learn more?

Does what happen even relate to anything or is what happened just a natural event of the earth?

Any thoughts on the possibility?

Your thoughts on this aren't silly at all. Actually, it is a very intresting concept. Was it a "Sign?" I believe so. We are instructed to watch and pray.
That is exactly what I am doing. Along with a sense of dread, I feel a yearning, an excitement! He is Coming! :)

Not to drift the thread, but this is related. Within a week of the Tsunami, I heard about this political party forming in Israel. The guy who heads it is clearly a candidate for the next Prime Minister of Israel. It struck me that this is the beginning of a sea change in Israeli politics that will end the indecisiveness there once and for all.


His name is Moshe Feiglin. He wrote the article.

Zo Artzeinu and Jewish Leadership

Who exactly are we? A protest movement that gets demonstrators onto the streets or an intellectual movement developing a new kind of ideology?

The answer is that we are both, and more?

When Rabin's government came to power, the Zo Artzeinu movement was established with the aim of opposing the destructive processes known as the Oslo Accords. Zo Artzeinu initiated tens of nation-wide non-violent but extremely turbulent protest activities, including halting traffic throughout the entire country. The movement believes in employing non-violent civil disobedience against any attempt to uproot settlements or to hand over parts of Eretz Israel to the enemy.

The extensive protest activities of the national public in general, and of the believing public in particular, brought about a change of regime, and Binyamin Netanyahu was elected as Prime Minister. However, what we had already known soon became apparent: the Israeli Right is incapable of offering a significant alternative to the post-Jewish processes currently afflicting the State of Israel. The Right inevitably continues to lead the public on the Oslo track since it does not offer an alternative to the Left's peace vision. In fact Netanyahu and Sharon continued the Oslo process, by signing the Wye agreements, handling over extensive areas of the City of Hebron to the enemy, and continuing to supply him with weapons and considerable quantities of ammunition.

It was clear to us that it was not enough to protest against governments of the Left and the Right. In addition to this protest we must develop a fundamental alternative to the processes of collapse that the State of Israel is currently experiencing. Such an alternative must be based on both a new ideology and the means of implementing it.

We feel that Israel must strive to achieve noble objectives, instead of merely to achieve "peace", with a consequent inevitable collapse. In the same way as a man cannot exist without meaning for his life, neither can a nation. This is particularly true of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, that is constantly living under a threat to its very existence.

But what are the noble objectives that we must present as a national objective? They may be formulated only from the ancient Jewish consciousness, from the Bible, the morality of the Prophets, Jewish creativity thousands of years old, and the historic experience of our nation. All these may be summed up in a single sentence taken from the Aleynu Le'shabeah prayer: "to perfect the world under the kingdom of the Almighty". The objective of the Jewish people, and of the State of Israel (its official representative in the world), is to uplift the entire world to the level of recognition of the Divine Good, and of execution of the Divine Will. Does this sound frightening? Too religious? Let's examine it for a moment. What is the objective of other cultured peoples?

For instance, the US wishes to perfect the world under the kingdom of Democracy. The USSR wished to perfect the world under the kingdom of Communism. The French wished to perfect the world under the kingdom of the values of the Revolution (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity). The Germans (may their name and memory be blotted out!) wished to "perfect" the world under the kingdom of Nazism. Only the Jewish people, the descendants of the Prophets, "the people that brought culture to the world" (Adams - the second President of the US) is forbidden to strive for more than just survival, and may only strive for "peace".

As Jews we have the key to the perfection of the world and its advancement towards a life of creativity and happiness. In order to do so we must develop a just society, a society developing in its own land and forming a shining example for the entire world. A society that is realizing, by its way of life, the morality of the Prophets, and forming a subject for admiration and imitation by the entire world.

This is the objective we must present. There is only one way to advance this objective - to promote leadership of a different kind for the State of Israel - leadership based on belief. Only leadership motivated by such a vision is capable of meeting all the challenges currently presented by history to the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Only leadership of this kind will be capable of slowly raising the State of Israel from its current low point and leading it towards the realization of the vision of the Prophets. For this purpose the Jewish Leadership movement was established with the aim of enlisting thousands in the Likud movement, and putting forward, at every opportunity, a candidate for the position of head of the national camp and Prime Minister of Israel.

So in answer to the question: "Who are we", we can reply: We are also, here and now, together with Zo Artzeinu, making an uncompromising protest against total collapse. We are also borne on the wings of the Jewish vision. We are not afraid of great aspirations, and we are searching for (and seem to have found, throughout the Jewish Leadership movement) the way to bridge between the difficult present and the shiny future expected for the Jewish people .

"If you want it", said Herzl, "it is not a dream". We know what we want. And we want it very much!
