I have decided that because I am a geek with no life, and I continue to be fascinated by the sheer volume of spam I get, I am going to start keeping track of it this year. I'll continue until I get bored or I receive too much abuse for being such a lame-ass, whichever comes first.

So far, from the start of the year until now, I have received approximately 104,000 spam messages. :beer:

Aleph, isn't there anything you can do to block most of that spam? That would drive me nutz!

Actually I forgot to say that most of it gets sorted using filters I wrote so that I only have to wade through a portion of it. A tiny fraction gets into my main box, a little more (few hundred a day) go in my "might be real mail" box. The rest of the crud goes in a "bitbucket" box I empty out every day or two.

If I didn't have that, I would already be nutz.

I almost feel kind of deprived. I usually only get one or two spam a month.

I've received 1 piece of spam in the last year and a half. Don't need more tho,thanks anyway.

I get and delete, on average, between 50 and 80 pieces of spam each day

I have a yahoo account that gets about 2,000 (two thousand!) spams a week. The filter catches all but about ten of those, so I can delete them unread. I have another account through my isp and it gets about 2,500 a week. There is no filter, so that account is totally useless.

AACK! I forgot spam existed. We had at least 100 a day, a few years ago. Then we moved and had a new address. Then we got about 50 a day. Then we got a new computer with OS X, and it's Mail program. One feature of this new mail program is a bounce feature. Whenever you get a piece of spam, you bounce it back. Stops 'em dead in their tracks. Haven't had a piece of spam in about 6 months. :D

I'll make a prediction that 85% of that spam is for male 'enlargement' type stuff coming from a handful of companies and the rest are for poor chaps on the run in Africa looking for bank accounts to throw their vast amount of money into.

Maybe you could do a statistical poll aleph and breakdown Spam type? Maybe you have a research paper there. Just up a geeks alley right?

Actually my numbers include true spam, viruses, mail reject notices (caused by spam and viruses) and so forth.

Averaging 2,000 per hour over the last 24 hours. Weekdays are more busy. ;)

and I thought I got a lot
my average per day at work is between 350-450 blocked, though I've had a day with 2500 blocked, then some do get thru.... and my boss and a few others complain about 8-20 a day...

Heck they test the spam blocking s/w on me at our company.
And I cannot change my e-mail without informing way to many people/vendors.
