A Nottingham man teaching in Bahrain has died aged 35.

Brian Brown was suffering flu-like symptoms when he collapsed at his apartment.

He died later in hospital.

Staff at St Christopher's Infant School in Awali, where he had taught since September, were devastated at his death.

Head teacher Sandy Whitford said: "The staff are totally devastated by this. All the staff were good friends and he was such a vital person to the school.

"He was such a brilliant teacher. He really loved the children and they loved him.

"He was good natured, fun and a very positive person."

Mr Brown, who was single, still has family in Nottingham.

He worked in the United Arab Emirates before Bahrain.

Mrs Whitford said: "He was off school one day because he was unwell but came in the next for the children's party.

"That was just like him. He really wanted to be there.

"Staff were worried about him and told him to go home as he was not well but he refused. He said he just needed to lie down for a while."

Later last Wednesday night he called friends in the same complex to say he was feeling worse. When they got to his apartment they found him collapsed.

The cause of his death is not yet known. His body is due to be flown back to Nottingham in the next few days.
