SHAH ALAM: The Veterinary Services Department will continue its monitoring for 21 more days to ensure the nation is free of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) or bird flu disease, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
He said although there were no new cases since the last culling and disinfection exercise on Nov 22 in Kelantan, the declaration had yet to be made.
“The department will continue final monitoring for another 21 days as an extra measure,” he said.
“We are taking into consideration the floods in Kelantan and other precautionary measures that we must continue to take before we can make a declaration at the latest by Jan 3 that Malaysia is free of Avian Influenza,” he told reporters after opening the Regional Seminar and Training on Diagnosis and Surveillance of Highly Pathogenic Avian Flu here. – Bernama
