I love my SmeegleBoy lots, he has an appointment for getting snipped at the vet. But he sprayed somewhere in the computer room
I can't figure out exactly where he did it, have a bucket and Oxy-clean ready to go on a moments notice. Where do they usually spray? what should I be looking for? I've tried following my nose but it seems the smell is 'everywhere'.

LOL! Good luck with that one. :D

Hubby wants to shoot the cat....out the door. I don't agree with outside cats. Outside cats end up dead cats. Going to call the vet in the morning see if we can get him in earlier. Is the first time he's sprayed and I want it to be the LAST time.

Well, this is probably icky TMI, but if you run your hand over the surfaces, it sometimes feels really sticky. Eeew. But then you know where to aim the Febreeze.

Best stuff for getting rid of cat pee, from experiance, is some stuff called "Nature's Miracle".
It's an enzimatic neutralizer, literally digests the smellies in Cat-spray. Works, believe me ;)

Where does one get it?

I got mine at a place called "Petsmart" don't know if you have one near your locale...Might try petstores around where you are ;)

Ok cool we have Petsmart type places here, I'll make hubby get some in the morning...
till then, I have incense, febreeze and soem diluted natural essential oils I can use

They usually spray up against fabric, or a solid surface. We had an old guy who chose expensive drapes, behind them...until we figured it out. Also look wherever there's a place to run his tail up against, like a table leg or other furniture. Sorry Yammy! Hope you find the spot and get it cleaned. In lieu of other products, if you don't have it handy, if it is a solid surface, vinegar will cut it. BTW. Fixed boys will still spray soemtimes. Just FYI. Who Me?

Hey Yammy...if ya have a blacklight, the affected areas will show up. Ditto on natures Miracle but you must soak the area and let it dry out naturally.

Care to tell us what that black light does when it's not looking for cat pee?
Seriously, let us know how this comes out. I have one with a UTI that is driving me nuts not using the litter box. I want to put him outside, but you're correct, an outside cat is pretty much a dead cat (at least in my neighborhood). I LOOKED at the nature's miracle the other day, but didn't buy it. I think I'm going to end up getting that SOON! Bad Cat! Bad!
I hope the neutering helps here. Spraying is just wrong... both my boys happily squat. Well, maybe they're not happy about it, but I am! :D

Vinegar and water gets cat piss out when nothing else will.
Wash things in the machine with one cup of vinegar. It will get it out. I thought i was going to have to toss my new down comforter (kitty was irate because I left town for the weekend). Saved it.

Yammy. It might be he is spraying over another cats scent. The old owners might have had a cat that sprayed and he is over-spraying the site.
Your new house is new to your cat too. He might be marking his territory. Silly cats. Im glad I do not have sprayers now. I had a deaf cat that did this. It is miserable to endure the smell. Have a spray bottle? Catch him in the act and he will think twice about spraying again. Unless he is marking your computer. Not worth trying that. LOL.

Ummm, my folks had a cat that would spray on the tv. Don't know if it was jealous of the attention the tv got or what. It also sprayed the area around the tv. Might want to check the area around your computer if you spend a lot of time on it.

Just another wash tip: ammonia will get out all sorts of lovely odors. Just add it to your wash and RUN. Nasty smell until it's completed. It works though. Had a friend with a smelly husband that washed EVERYTHING in it. Works on most everything.

Nature's Miracle is expensive. I have found that you can neutralize the scent with rubbing alcohol. If it's in the carpet, just pour the alcohol generously over the area because it needs to reach the carpet padding. You can also probably use a spray bottle to spray it on surfaces, though I've only used it in the carpet.

Hansa:
I did find it and it's all cleaned up and yes, he nailed my computer desk way back behind in the corner. Had to pull it out to get at it. Used the vinegar and febreeze and thankfully the smell is pretty much gone.
thanks to all who contributed suggestions here, I really appreciate it.

So, tell us Yammy...was it the black light that did the trick?

BTW...here's an interesting site for a company called "Millevolte" (http://www.millevolte.com/ProductsIndex.htm)...they sell "black light reactive" ceiling fans.
Here's an example of their wares below.
I suppose you just turn on the black light and the ceiling fan, lay back on your bed and....whoa...groovy....

Now Yammy, it is time to sit down and have a talk with your cat. They do have the ability to understand and can suck some of your brain cells at the same time.
First you must know that HE knows what he is doing. It is his stuff and not yours. He must keep his stuff under control and find an outlet or better way to express his mind and not his urine. Tell him that he can use a certain area (like the cat box) to express his frustration and distaste for his new surroundings. Do not allow him back in this room and keep a keen eye on his frustruation level for a time.
TALK TO YOUR CAT! Go out and find him some of that kitty grass. Not the THC kind but the wheat grass. New toys to keep his kitty brain entertained and affirmations for him to practice. You also might buy some Rescue Remedy to reduce his fears of the new house.

Yammy,
Glad you conquered that problem. Mention it to your Vet when you bring him in for his snipping. Often times a cat does this because of a urinary tract infection. It could be just starting and you can get that checked, too.
I was going to memtion the blacklight, too. It's works on any kind of urine, cat or dog.
By the way. I work under a 12000 uW/cm2 Blacklight, it's very effective for alot of applications ;)

My dearly departed Uther used to spray.
Best way to get rid of the smell:
1) Burn the house to the ground
2) Collect insurance
3) Rebuild house
4) Diaper the cat

Farticus!
Good to see you here. :D
Aside from ex-post-facto responses, don't forget to have enough *clean* litter boxes for the cats to use. Cats, unlike dogs, children, and certain truckers won't use a nasty toilet. The average is usually 1 box per 2 cats, though some cats - particularly ones not from the same litter - may need/many more.

Dunvegan: It really did help me to find WHERE he did it, and it was right by my computer desk. He really hates me being on the computer for some reason and often lays on the floor near my desk to nap. I've decided to get him a kitty bed so that he can be comfy and cozy while I'm online.
Herbie: Yep, he does know what he did and I do talk to him. He's been telling me that he wants to go outside. I'm a smart 'Mommy' and only offer to his whim when it's pouring rain outside :D He doesn't seem to want to go out then. hahaha
Arubi: Thanks for the suggestion, I will mention it to them for sure!
Fart:
DarkImbolic:Yep, I keep the litter box very clean so that was something that I was a bit confused on.... there was no reason for it.

Cat comes in from outside to use the litterbox.
Cat waits while you change the box, then goes in and takes a big smelly dump in the fresh litter.
Cat goes in the box, digs a hole, (and before you can stop him), gets out, pees on the floor, then goes back in the box and covers the hole.
My cat hated Toucan Sam when we first got married. He'd wait for TS to get out of bed, go in the shower, then crap on his pillow. TS wanted to kill the cat. I said the cat was there first.
